Marine Insurance

Marine Insurance provides coverage for any physical damage to your vessel if it is accidentally damaged or destroyed through fire, theft, collision, sinking, malicious damage, vandalism, and windstorm damage. Policy coverage also protects you, your passengers, equipment, cargo and anyone else who may be impacted in the event of an unfortunate accident.

Do you need boat insurance?

While you might not collide with another boat, run aground on a sand bar or hit a buoy, there are other boating dangers, such as:

  • The boat sinking, which happens more often than not while it is docked
  • Getting sued as a result of damage caused from your boat’s wake
  • Paying for the medical bills if a guest is injured on your boat

Insurance costs can vary widely depending on the boat, its intended use, previous claims, where it’s docked or stored, plus the operator’s own experience. Our expert team will take the guess work out of choosing the right policy for you; one that provides the best coverage for your boating needs taking into consideration:

  • Type and cost of your boat: age, size, type, power and equipment
  • Intended use: personal, commercial or charter boat
  • Condition of boat (as determined by a qualified surveyor)
  • Operator’s experience
  • Navigational plans, etc.
  • Cargo contents and value where applicable

The above is meant to provide general information and general policy descriptions to help you understand the different types of coverage offered. These descriptions do not refer to any specific contracts of insurance and they do not modify any definitions, exclusions or any other provision expressly stated in any contracts of insurance issued by Shield Insurance Agents & Brokers. We encourage you to speak to one of our authorized insurance representatives, and to read your policy contract to fully understand your coverages.
