Motor Insurance

Choosing your Motor Insurance Policy

We recognize the priority of safeguarding your vehicle, and the family and friends who may travel with you. Should an accident occur, we know that you will require coverage of the persons inside and outside of your vehicle, as well as any other vehicle or property damaged as a result.

Our Motor Insurance policies protect you and your vehicle in the event of an accident but also cover damage or injury caused by you or someone else driving your vehicle with your permission.

Third Party Motor Insurance

This policy provides you with the minimum required insurance protection for your vehicle to be driven on the road. As a driver, this coverage protects your legal liability towards your passengers and other persons (such as pedestrians) as a result of injury or death in the event of an accident. You are also protected for damages to other vehicles involved in the collision as well as any third party property damage.

You are also covered against Third Party risks whilst driving someone else’s private car with their permission.

Comprehensive Motor Insurance

This policy provides the highest level of coverage for both you and your vehicle. In addition to the benefits of Third Party coverage, you are covered for accidental damage to your vehicle (i.e. collision and malicious damage).

Additional protection provided under this policy includes:

  • Hurricane Coverage – This covers your vehicle against the perils of hurricane, windstorm, earthquake and flood.
  • Windshield Damage – This covers loss or damage to the windscreen or windows in your vehicle. This type of claim does not affect your No Claims Discount (NCD) and has no deductible.
  • Personal Item Coverage – Basic Protection for your personal belongings while in your vehicle; if they are lost or damaged in an accident up to a specified limit.
  • Passenger Liability – This covers your liability for death or injury to passengers in your vehicle.
  • Medical Insurance – This takes care of minor hospital and physicians’ bills up to a specified amount.
  • Personal Accident Benefit– This covers the insured for personal injuries resulting from an accident up to a specified amount.
  • Loss of Use –If your vehicle is unable to be driven due to loss or damage resulting from a traffic accident, this entitles you to the use of a rental while your vehicle is being repaired.

Total Loss

This coverage is intended to “bridge the gap” between Third Party Coverage and Comprehensive Coverage. This policy only covers instances where the vehicle is deemed to be a “Total Loss” (sum of repairs exceeds the actual value of the vehicle).

Partial damages to the vehicle, not resulting in a “Total Loss” (where the vehicle is repairable) are not covered under this policy.

This coverage is particularly effective for covering those vehicles where there is a lack of availability of parts locally.

Commercial Auto Insurance & Fleet Insurance

A Commercial Auto Insurance policy ensures that you have coverage to protect your company’s vehicles and your business against liabilities for operating them. Whether you have a single company car or a fleet of vehicles, Shield Insurance has the most flexible turnkey options available.

This policy can cover cars, trucks, trailers, vans or other vehicles designed for use on public roads. Each vehicle you use in your business has its own unique characteristics and value, and you can choose the coverage to fit your company’s needs.

Sometimes the survival of your business is dependent on keeping your vehicles on the road. Whether you have company vehicles driven by your executive/sales team, or a fleet of delivery vans hauling goods to your valued customers – we can provide you with the right coverage.

Vehicles such as Dump Trucks, Tractors, Payloaders and Excavators can be important construction tools used in your day to day operation, and as such require the proper coverage to keep your business running smoothly.

Transportation may actually be your business! We also specialize in coverage for “passenger carrying vehicles” such as Rental Cars, Taxis, Tour and Charter Vehicles. In the event of a serious accident, the injured parties are likely to sue your business to collect damages. We are here to protect your interests.

We can offer both Comprehensive and Third Party coverage to protect your vehicle(s) and business against loss and liabilities.

What to do if you are involved in a motor accident?

  • Check for injured persons, note the type of injuries and call for the police (and ambulance if necessary).
  • Take photos of the scene.
  • Look for witnesses and write down their names and addresses.
  • Write down the name and number of the police officer that arrives at the scene and answer all questions to the best of your ability.
  • Obtain details of the other vehicle(s), namely:
    • Number on license plate;
    • Make, model and colour of vehicle;
    • Name, address and phone number of driver;
    • Name of insurance company;
  • Do not enter into any agreement to fix the third party’s vehicle, no matter how obvious it might seem that you are at fault.
  • Inform them that you are insured and refer them to your insurance company or agent.
  • If your vehicle is disabled and cannot be driven, have it towed to your home if possible, as most towing companies do not tell you about their storage fees.
  • As soon as possible, visit your insurance agent with your driver’s license and complete an accident report.
  • Obtain at least two estimates for repairs to your vehicle.
